The adventure follows young Link as he leaves Kokiri Forest, gathers the Spiritual Stones, draws the Master Sword and later confronts Ganondorf as an adult.
Core Gameplay
Exploration, dungeons, combat and time travel
The defining structure of Ocarina of Time centers on dungeon exploration, lock-on combat, musical puzzles and traveling between Link's child and adult eras.
Classic Locations
Hyrule Field, Kokiri Forest, Death Mountain, Zora's Domain and more
The adventure returns to the major regions and temples associated with the original Ocarina of Time journey.
Beginner Guide
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Beginner Guide
Ocarina of Time combines exploration, dungeon puzzles, sword combat and music-based progression. New players should focus first on lock-on combat, environmental clues and collecting the key items required to open new areas.
Explore Kokiri Forest
Talk to the Kokiri, learn how movement and interaction work, obtain the Kokiri Sword and collect enough Rupees to buy a Deku Shield.
- Search grass, rocks and small areas for Rupees.
- Equip both the Kokiri Sword and Deku Shield before entering the Great Deku Tree.
- Speak with nearby characters because early dialogue explains important controls.
Learn Lock-On Combat
Use the targeting system to keep enemies centered while attacking, blocking or moving around them.
- Keep your shield ready against enemies with predictable attacks.
- Circle around shielded enemies instead of attacking directly into their guard.
- Backflips and side jumps can avoid many close-range attacks.
Use Items to Solve Problems
Many enemies and puzzles require specific tools instead of sword attacks. Early examples include the Fairy Slingshot, Deku Sticks, Bombs and the Boomerang.
- Check suspicious switches, walls and distant objects.
- Deku Sticks can carry fire between torches.
- Bombs can destroy cracked walls and certain obstacles.
Follow the Spiritual Stone Route
During Link's childhood, complete the Great Deku Tree, Dodongo's Cavern and Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly to obtain the three Spiritual Stones.
- Each dungeon introduces an item that is also needed for its boss.
- Dungeon Maps reveal room layouts while Compasses reveal important locations.
- Boss doors require the dungeon's Boss Key in the later temples.
Learn Ocarina Songs
Songs unlock story events, teleportation routes and environmental interactions throughout Hyrule.
- Zelda's Lullaby activates many royal-family symbols.
- Saria's Song connects Link with Saria and is used during progression.
- The Song of Time interacts with Time Blocks and key story events.
Understand Child and Adult Link
After the Temple of Time sequence, Link awakens seven years later. The two eras have different routes, items and puzzle solutions.
- Some areas must be prepared while Link is a child and completed later as an adult.
- Adult Link can use equipment such as the Hookshot and Fairy Bow.
- Return to the Temple of Time when progression requires changing eras.
Manage Health and Resources
Collect Recovery Hearts, ammunition and Bottles while exploring rather than entering difficult areas with empty supplies.
- Fairies stored in Bottles can restore Link after losing all health.
- Heart Pieces eventually combine into additional Heart Containers.
- Keep Bombs, arrows and other ammunition stocked before major dungeons.
Use the Map When You Get Stuck
Progression often depends on visiting a new region with a recently acquired item or song.
- Revisit characters who previously mentioned blocked routes.
- Watch Navi and environmental clues for interactable objects.
- If a dungeon path appears impossible, check whether the dungeon item can open a new route.

Dungeons & Bosses
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Dungeons & Bosses
Each major dungeon introduces a tool or mechanic that becomes central to its puzzles and boss fight. Use these cards to identify what you need, where players commonly get stuck and how each boss is defeated.
Inside the Great Deku Tree
BeginnerMechanic: Vertical exploration, torches and web barriers

Dodongo's Cavern
BeginnerMechanic: Bombs, Bomb Flowers and destructible walls
Boss: King Dodongo
Strategy: Throw a Bomb into King Dodongo's mouth when he inhales, then strike him while he is stunned. Move to the edge of the arena when he begins rolling.
Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly
IntermediateMechanic: Electrical barriers, switches and carrying Princess Ruto
Boss: Barinade
Strategy: Use the Boomerang to sever Barinade's connections and stun the central body. Move constantly while avoiding electrical attacks, then strike with the sword when an opening appears.

Boss: Phantom Ganon
Strategy: Shoot the real Phantom Ganon with the Fairy Bow as he emerges from a painting. During the second phase, reflect his energy attacks back at him and strike when he falls.

Boss: Volvagia
Strategy: Use the Megaton Hammer when Volvagia emerges from a lava hole. Strike the head after stunning it and avoid rocks and fire attacks during its airborne phase.
Water Temple
AdvancedMechanic: Changing water levels and revisiting rooms at different heights
Boss: Morpha
Strategy: Use the Longshot to pull Morpha's nucleus out of the water, then attack it with the sword. Stay away from the water tentacles and fight from the edge of the arena when possible.
Shadow Temple
AdvancedMechanic: Invisible platforms, hidden walls and illusion puzzles
Boss: Bongo Bongo
Strategy: Use the Fairy Bow to stun both hands, then activate the Lens of Truth to see Bongo Bongo's eye and attack it when the boss charges.
Spirit Temple
AdvancedMechanic: Completing separate child and adult sections and reflecting light
Boss: Twinrova
Strategy: During the first phase, reflect one sister's elemental attack into the other with the Mirror Shield. During the combined phase, absorb repeated attacks of the same element and release the stored energy back at Twinrova.
Ganon's Castle
AdvancedMechanic: Six elemental barrier trials followed by a tower ascent
Boss: Ganondorf
Strategy: Return Ganondorf's energy projectile with sword strikes, use the Light Arrows when he is vulnerable and attack after he falls. Keep magic available for Light Arrow shots.
Final Battle
AdvancedMechanic: Close-range combat against Ganon
Boss: Ganon
Strategy: Target Ganon's tail and attack it when you can move behind him. After recovering the Master Sword, continue striking his weak point until Zelda creates the final opening.

Cheats & Secrets
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Codes, Cheats & Secrets
Ocarina of Time's secrets are mainly discovered through exploration, optional challenges, hidden interactions and mechanical exploits rather than redeemable promotional codes. These cards focus on reproducible in-game secrets and well-known classic techniques.
Redeem Codes
No redeem-code menuRequirement: None
Instructions: The classic game does not use a promotional code-entry system. Progress rewards are earned through exploration, quests, collectibles, minigames, and hidden interactions.
Result: No code entry is required for normal unlocks.
Scarecrow's Song
AvailableRequirement: Reach Lake Hylia as both child and adult
Instructions: As child Link, play an original eight-note melody for Bonooru at Lake Hylia. Return as adult Link and replay the exact same melody to activate the song.
Result: Playing the melody at specific locations summons Pierre, creating optional Hookshot or Longshot targets.
Cow in Link's House
AvailableRequirement: Epona and access to Malon's obstacle course
Instructions: Complete Malon's horseback obstacle course at Lon Lon Ranch, then beat the faster target time.
Result: A cow is delivered to Link's house in Kokiri Forest. Playing Epona's Song beside it while carrying an empty bottle provides free milk.
Biggoron's Sword
AvailableRequirement: Adult trading sequence
Instructions: Complete the timed adult trading quest across Kakariko Village, Lost Woods, Lake Hylia, Gerudo Valley, and Death Mountain, then return to Biggoron with the Claim Check.
Result: Awards the durable two-handed Biggoron's Sword, one of the strongest melee weapons in the game.
Hylian Loach
AvailableRequirement: Fishing Pond access
Instructions: Search the Fishing Pond for the rare Hylian Loach and use careful lure movement to attract it.
Result: Provides a special fishing challenge and unique dialogue when successfully caught.
Sinking Lure
AvailableRequirement: Earn the standard Fishing Pond rewards first
Instructions: After qualifying for the pond's major rewards, search the pond area for the hidden Sinking Lure, which can appear at several concealed spots.
Result: Unlocks a lure that makes catching difficult fish easier, although catches made with it are treated differently by the pond owner.
Gerudo Horseback Archery Rewards
AvailableRequirement: Epona, Fairy Bow, and Gerudo Fortress access
Instructions: Score at least 1,000 points in horseback archery for the first reward, then reach the higher 1,500-point target.
Result: Awards a Piece of Heart and the largest Quiver upgrade.
Cucco Revenge Swarm
AvailableRequirement: Find a Cucco
Instructions: Repeatedly attack the same Cucco instead of leaving it alone.
Result: A flock of Cuccos eventually attacks Link continuously until he escapes the area or enters safety.
Gossip Stone Reactions
AvailableRequirement: Find a Gossip Stone
Instructions: Experiment with bombs, the Megaton Hammer, fire, and other equipment around Gossip Stones.
Result: The stones react with unusual animations and effects, including launching into the air after certain attacks.
Dampé's Fast Race Reward
AvailableRequirement: Adult Link and Dampé's grave
Instructions: After obtaining the Hookshot, repeat Dampé's race and finish in under one minute.
Result: Awards a Piece of Heart.
Infinite Sword Glitch
Classic-version exploitRequirement: Sword and a compatible interactable object
Instructions: Interrupt a sword attack at the precise moment Link begins interacting with an object such as a sign, producing a state where the sword's damage hitbox remains active.
Result: Allows persistent sword damage without repeatedly swinging until the state is cancelled.
Bomb Hovering
Classic-version exploitRequirement: Bombs or Bombchus, shield, and precise timing
Instructions: Combine explosive recoil, shielding, and repeated airborne actions to preserve height instead of falling normally.
Result: Can bypass intended routes and is widely associated with advanced sequence-breaking and speedrunning.
Bottle Duplication
Classic-version exploitRequirement: Bottle item and precise inventory timing
Instructions: Manipulate the bottle-catching animation and inventory assignment to overwrite another inventory slot with a bottle.
Result: Creates additional bottle slots but can permanently replace important items if performed carelessly.
Item Rankings
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Items Tier List
This tier list favors items that remain useful across many areas of Hyrule rather than equipment that dominates only one encounter. Mandatory progression value, combat strength, puzzle coverage, travel utility and the effort required to obtain each item are all considered.
Essential / Game-Changing
Ocarina of Time
Key ItemBest Use: Warping, time manipulation, story progression, puzzle activation, and secret interactions.
Why: No other item connects as many major systems, songs, routes, and story gates.
Hookshot / Longshot
Utility WeaponBest Use: Crossing gaps, reaching Hookshot targets, stunning enemies, retrieving objects, and solving dungeon puzzles.
Why: Extremely high puzzle and navigation value with useful combat applications throughout the adult era.
Fairy Bow
Ranged WeaponBest Use: Long-range combat, eye switches, torches, elemental arrows, and boss mechanics.
Why: One of adult Link's most flexible weapons and a repeated requirement in later dungeons.
Empty Bottles
UtilityBest Use: Fairies, potions, milk, Blue Fire, bugs, fish, Poe souls, and quest materials.
Why: Their ability to carry healing, revival items, and progression materials makes extra bottles valuable in almost every part of the game.
Master Sword
SwordBest Use: Adult combat and switching between child and adult eras at the Temple of Time.
Why: A mandatory progression item that remains reliable in nearly every adult combat encounter.
Powerful / Broad Utility
Biggoron's Sword
SwordBest Use: Bosses and high-health enemies where raw melee damage matters most.
Why: Outstanding damage and durability are balanced by the long optional trade quest and inability to use a shield while attacking.
Bombs
Weapon / ToolBest Use: Breaking walls, activating mechanisms, exposing grottoes, and damaging armored or vulnerable enemies.
Why: Bombs remain relevant from Dodongo's Cavern through late-game exploration.
Lens of Truth
Key ItemBest Use: Revealing invisible platforms, hidden walls, concealed enemies, and false objects.
Why: Its use is concentrated in specific areas, but those areas make it exceptionally valuable.
Megaton Hammer
Weapon / ToolBest Use: Smashing rusted switches, breaking obstacles, flipping certain enemies, and heavy melee attacks.
Why: Strong combat power combined with several unique environmental interactions.
Boomerang
Ranged WeaponBest Use: Child-era ranged combat, electrical switches, stunning enemies, and retrieving distant Gold Skulltula Tokens.
Why: Exceptional utility during the child era even though adult Link cannot equip it.
Hylian Shield
ShieldBest Use: Blocking attacks, surviving fire hazards, and replacing the vulnerable Deku Shield.
Why: Cheap, durable, and useful across a large percentage of the adventure.
Din's Fire
MagicBest Use: Area damage and lighting several torches simultaneously.
Why: A strong early magic tool with a mandatory role in opening the Shadow Temple route.
Strong but Situational
Iron Boots
BootsBest Use: Underwater exploration and resisting currents or movement forces.
Why: Mandatory and extremely important in the Water Temple, but much less useful away from water-based puzzles.
Hover Boots
BootsBest Use: Crossing short gaps and navigating Shadow Temple platforms.
Why: Useful for specific traversal challenges but poor traction makes them inconvenient for normal movement.
Mirror Shield
ShieldBest Use: Reflecting light and magical attacks, especially in the Spirit Temple.
Why: Very powerful in its intended dungeon but obtained late enough that its overall coverage is limited.
Goron Tunic
TunicBest Use: Surviving extreme heat in Death Mountain Crater and the Fire Temple.
Why: Vital in hot environments but provides little extra value elsewhere.
Zora Tunic
TunicBest Use: Unlimited underwater breathing with the Iron Boots.
Why: Excellent for aquatic exploration but highly specialized.
Nayru's Love
MagicBest Use: Reducing danger during difficult fights and hazardous rooms.
Why: Strong protection, but its large magic cost and optional nature limit routine use.
Farore's Wind
MagicBest Use: Creating and returning to a warp point inside compatible dungeons.
Why: Can save substantial travel time in complex dungeons but offers little value outside them.
Limited / Niche
Ice Arrows
ArrowBest Use: Optional freezing effects and novelty combat strategies.
Why: They arrive late through the Gerudo Training Ground and are not required for the main quest.
Giant's Knife
SwordBest Use: Temporary high-damage melee combat.
Why: It resembles Biggoron's Sword but breaks after repeated use, sharply reducing long-term value.
Deku Shield
ShieldBest Use: Basic child-era defense and projectile reflection.
Why: Useful at the beginning but can burn and is quickly overshadowed by the Hylian Shield.
Fairy Slingshot
Ranged WeaponBest Use: Child-era switches, distant enemies, and early dungeon puzzles.
Why: Important early in the game but completely replaced by stronger adult ranged options later.
